David Farrell Melton has been playing music for as long as he can remember. Throughout his youth, he was recognized for his skills in classical piano with certificates of honors from both the Hartford Conservatory and the Hartt School of Music. In high school, he joined the renowned Hall High School Concert Jazz Band, during which time he was recognized nationally as a two-time Downbeat award winner for Best Composition and Outstanding Soloist and a two-time Essentially Ellington award winner for Outstanding Soloist. By the age of 18, he had performed on stage with jazz legends Wynton Marsalis, Kurt Elling, Joe Temperley, Joe Lovano, and Phil Woods. In 2002, David packed his bags for New York City where he received a Bachelor’s degree in Music and Philosophy from NYU. Since graduation he has settled in Brooklyn, earning his living performing, recording, composing, and teaching music of all styles and genres.
